Paul Greenberg spends his July 4th column discussing how the Spirit of 76, while perhaps difficult to explain in words, keeps marching on.
It's a good read, and in it he references a new book that just might get me to the library to see if I can find a copy.
The book is "American Nightingale," by Bob Welch, a biography of Frances Slanger, an immigrant's daughter who became the first nurse killed overseas after D-Day.
