I love watching God provide.
My cyber-friend Shannon blogged about God's provision today, and it reminded me that I had a praise report of my own to share.
I thought I was going to be late with my rent, because it was absolutely due yesterday, and my student loan check hadn't arrived yet. The policy here is that it has to be in their building before they arrive to work on the morning of the 6th, or it's late (that means you can use their night deposit slot). When it's late, you pay the full market value of your apt (my regular rent is almost $200 below market rate), AND a 10% penalty. That's 10% of the market value, of course. So I stopped by yesterday and told them I'd be late, and that I'd pay it as soon as my loan check arrived. Paying late meant I'd have had to pony up another $300+ over my regular rent - yuck. But, as I told her, I'd rather pay later than write them an NSF check.
This morning, I had time to check my mail before heading out to my part-time job, and there was the loan check, sitting prettily in my PO box.
I had enough time to run to the bank, deposit the check, and stop by the apt office to write them a check. I had told them yesterday that I'd be late, so I asked her this morning how much it would be with the late penalties.
She said that since I was there RIGHT after they opened, and the lady who does their accounts wouldn't be in until noon, to go ahead and write it for the regular amount, and she would treat it as if it were waiting for them when they opened this morning (in other words, NOT late). :-)
And I STILL made it to my first appointment on time!
I went ahead and paid 2 months rent, so that when I get my first paycheck from the new job, I can use it for other bills, or to build up a cushion in my checking account. I'm not sure the checking account will know what to do with a cushion - for right now, I'm happy to have a small cushion back in my savings account - it's been sitting at about $20 for a couple months now. Now I just need to remind myself to not go crazy spending - there may be books to buy, and I won't see another paycheck until the end of the month, because of when I'm starting the new job. The old job overpaid me on my last check, so I won't see another check from them - they'll just subtract my hours from the overpayment.
And I had time enough left in my day to register my car. I'm only about 3 weeks late with that (oops). Since I know that I'll be fine financially this year, I decided to move past the standard (cheap) plate and get one of the special license plates. When I first moved here, I had their "support wildlife" plate, because I love nature. This year, I opted for the "Fight Breast Cancer" plate, because a good friend had a bout with breast cancer back in 2001. So I usually buy the breast cancer stamps from the post office, and I wanted the license plate as a way of supporting my friend. Even if she never sees it (we're several states apart), I'll think of her every time *I* see it.
