My trip to NJ this week started out very interestingly.... but remember that "May you live in interesting times" was considered a curse.
Good thing - I volunteered my seat and got a $300 voucher.
Bad thing - the re-routed trip took me from ATL to IAH to NJ, arriving at 1010pm instead of 2pm.
Good thing - the limo company was still able to meet my plane.
Bad thing - the hotel I asked them to drive me to wasn't the one I was registered at.
Good thing - the correct hotel was only a couple blocks away, and the incorrect hotel shuttle gave me a ride.
Bad thing - the "correct" hotel was actually the INcorrect hotel. All I had to go by was a hotel name and phone number - the name was correct, but the number I called to make my reservations was for a different (nearby) hotel with a similar name. Normally this would not be a big deal, but the hotel I was actually staying at does not provide a shuttle ride to the place I was going to be working. The other hotel did. Which leads to another
Bad thing - the taxi ride from the hotel to the office on Tues morning cost $42.
Good thing - it's a reimbursable expense, and they took plastic.
Good thing - I was able to check out of the incorrect hotel early, and checked into a Marriott Courtyard much closer to the office.
Good thing - at lunchtime a co-worker took me back to the old hotel to check out.
Good thing - a classmate is also staying at the Courtyard, and is giving me rides to/from class, so I don't have to take the hotel shuttle.
Bad thing - Monday night, when the shuttle dropped me in front of the hotel where I actually had my reservation, I grabbed my backpack with one hand and my computer case with the other, and stepped up onto the curb.
At least, I thought I did. Turns out I didn't raise my foot quite high enough, and so I tripped, and wound up measuring my length on the pavement there. Since my hands were full, I wasn't able to catch myself. Wound up with some minor scrapes on the heels of my hands, and salt-dust all over my slacks, but was grateful to realize that I wasn't really hurt. Since I wasn't hurt, I saw no need to mention it to the folks when I checked in. And based on the lack of anyone remarking on my fall, I can only assume that no one saw it. Which was a little disappointing, because at that point, I really needed some sympathy. LOL
When I got up into my room and started checking myself out, I realized that I must have hit my ribs when I fell, because there was a nice little red mark there, just under my bra. It was gone by morning, but the soreness wasn't. And there's a bit of a lump there as well, I think.
In fact, as the days have continued on through the week, I've found more areas of stiffness/soreness that have to be related to the fall. I'm sure the extra-chilly weather here is contributing to the stiffness/soreness, as well. Today it's my neck, as well as the standard aches from yesterday. Yesterday's ache was my rib area (where I saw the red mark originally), and my shoulder on that side. If I put my hands behind my back, it hurts my shoulder. I've never had whiplash, but I'm wondering if this might not be comparable to it.
I've been trying to hold off seeing a dr., because I don't want to make a big deal out of nothing, and because it would take time away from class to go. But if we get done as early tomorrow as we think we will, I might try to go then. Otherwise, then on Friday when I'm back in my regular office I'll get it checked out. I just keep thinking "what can they do for me?" but it occurred to me today that I might be able to get some better meds than just ibuprofen. With that thought, I became *much* more motivated to have it checked out. LOL
