Yesterday was wonderful. I hooked up with my friends and had breakfast at a nice little mom&pop place - one of the things I loved most about my college town was the number of mom&pop storers/restaurants/etc. that they had. The usual chains are there, of course, but lots of little places, too.
Then R and her family came over and joined us for dinner, and R brought butter squash soup (she's supposed to give me the recipe, if she can remember what all she put in it - she loves to just throw in a dash of this and a pinch of that). The kids started telling jokes, and a riotous time was had by all. :)
Then I headed back to B's house, to either nap or work on schoolwork while she ran some errands she had to do.
Had a wee bit of a meltdown whilst working on my schoolwork...it's been
frustrating me all week, and I wasn't able to see it a different way.
So B & I talked about it, and discussed what I could do differently
in my approach to my schoolwork that will keep me on top where I want
to be, not in the middle of the pack.
Afterwards, the kids played while we 3 sat around and talked some more, about all kinds of things. R is a college professor (so is Barb), and and R is working on her doctorate (and working fulltime, and raising 3 great kids - her husband is also working fulltime, and working on his master's, so that family has a pretty full plate). So I picked R's brain about juggling work, school, and life, and because she's studied or taught some of the same stuff I'm taking this spring, I started talking about the mental block I couldn't get past on my homework. It only took a couple comments from her, and a lightbulb came on, shattering the mental block so that I can see my way through the next few assignments (hooray!).
This morning, B had to leave at 630 to take her daughter to volleyball tourney, so I got up and said goodbye to them, and then came back to the hotel to spend a relaxing day continuing to recupe from the sinus infection. I do *not* want a relapse of it, believe me. And I'm on the road again next week, as well.
So today I treated myself to breakfast at Baker Square, and brought home some slices of pie for desserts later this week. Then I had a nice hot soak in the tub, and a nice afternoon nap. Now I need to buy some groceries, and do some laundry, and work on re-doing my "marginal" assignment correctly (hooray for broken mental blocks), and then tomorrow starts a new round of class, where I continue to learn everything there is to learn about our computer program, so I can start teaching it later this month.
